Summer unofficially kicked off this weekend with a downpour of rain and a flurry of emotions.
Things are certainly going to be different this Summer. How different remains to be seen, but it’s safe to say we aren’t going back to BC (before Covid) anytime soon.
It was my first time out of town since quarantine began. I thought long and hard about it and decided there was a safe way to enjoy this time, so we headed out to the Hamptons.
Although there was no nightlife and no bars, restaurants, or boutiques open (not that I would have entered them at this point), the charm out East was intact. Behind masks, we found pockets of joy.
That’s what I think Summer is going to be about: the curbside margarita; the long bike ride to town for morning coffee. Everything may be a version of what it was, but it can still be special. I appreciated these moments. I found my pockets of joy.
We visited friends we would typically hug. But sharing stories and energy was just as fulfilling from six feet apart. It was awesome to see everyone.
As things open back up, in some areas slower than others, let’s keep a close eye on the results. No one wants to stay quarantined longer than they have to, but we don’t want a tidal wave of new sickness and reckoning either. The world will never be the same, but the pockets of joy hit different when you count your blessings more closely than ever.
