It’s been 10 years since Donavan Johnson became XV.
Hailing from Kansas, a land that’s not necessarily known for it’s hip-hop artists, XV started out as “everybody’s nobody.” After releasing various mixtapes that showcased his skills as an MC, we’ve been able to witness his growth as an artist and gotten to know XV as one of the forerunners in the next era of hip-hop.
XV shook off the disappointment of being denied a spot on this year’s XXL’s Freshman 10. Staying on his grind, XV was named one of the best acts of SXSW, released “30 Minute Layover,” got picked up by NUE Agency, hopped on tour with Clipse & Chiddy Bang and… officially got signed to Warner Bros. Records.
For those of you who’ve been following XV, this is a the moment we’ve all been eagerly anticipating.
