Karmaloop x Chiddy Bang Interview

Karmaloop sat down with one half of Chiddy Bang, @realchiddy, to discuss a bunch of things including his new world record, collab with Big Sean and Wiz Khalifa, and of course Chiddy Bang’s upcoming LP. Check out the full interview below.
First of all, congrats on breaking the record for the world’s longest freestyle! What was going through your mind during the eighth hour?
Thank you. By the eighth hour I was just zoned out. I knew once I got through the first hour it was just a matter of endurance. I didn’t think too much about it before the attempt. My manager hit me up about the idea and I just rolled with it.
Would you do it again?
I could do it again if I had to, but I don’t want to. [laughs]
What inspired you and Xaphoon Jones to perform the lead single “Mind your Manners” off of your forthcoming LP at the O Music Awards while you were freestyling?
We just felt like that was a good opportunity to debut the next single. At that point it was the first time we ever performed it, and I was so burnt out that I didn’t really remember the words – so I kept freestyling. Technically, my record should be even longer!
Tell us about the story behind the LP’s title, Breakfast.
It’s symbolic because it’s our first official offering to the world – our first meal of the day, so to speak. And breakfast is such an important meal. Plus, who can really hate on breakfast? You can eat it any time. You can’t really eat dinner or lunch in the morning, but you can eat breakfast all day.
I love the Chiddy Bang and Wiz Khalifa guest spot on Big Sean’s track, “High” – how did that collab come about?
It was a track we had for a minute that I didn’t really like at first, so Xaph said Sean wanted to use it. When I heard it I was like “I need to get on that now!” [laughs] But Sean is the homie and it just made sense. Our fans ask about us doing stuff together all the time so this seemed like a good opportunity to give them what they wanted. Wiz was a bonus on there.
You previously dropped a line about Karmaloop in your song “Old Ways” about us keeping your closet fresh. What’s some of your favorite gear that you copped from us?
I’ve gotten some Crooks & Castles gear, some 10 Deep and Jordans. Karmaloop always holds us down so we have mad love for you guys. Anytime we’re in Boston, we’re stocking up!
What’s next for you and Xaphoon Jones once the LP drops?
We’re gonna start the whole cycle of touring, press and radio again. We’ve been home for a few months in the studio, so it’ll be good to get out there again and see the fans and play some new music. We’re excited about what the future holds. Lots of good things on deck.
